Engineering and Healing of Living Systems
The knowledge gained in fundamental biology and chemistry, multi-scale imaging, and modeling of living systems serves as the foundation for translational activities in biomedical engineering.
Among the subjects addressed at Institut Polytechnique de Paris is notably the development of living systems on a chip (organs/diseases) which are used for the design of new therapeutic molecules or vaccines and for the screening of certain pathologies.
Particular emphasis is placed on emerging threats (such as certain viruses and the emergence of antimicrobial resistance) as well as personalized medicine (individual patient monitoring, "omics" approaches, bioinformatics, machine learning, and predictive modeling).
Another aspect of our activities is dedicated to synthetic biology, an interdisciplinary field that draws on approaches from biophysics, chemical and biological engineering, as well as computer science. Our work focuses notably on the design of new biological systems (cells or biological systems with novel functions) and their interfacing with biomedical devices.
