Two researchers awarded ERC Starting Grant at Institut Polytechnique de Paris

The European Research Council is supporting the projects of Carlota Andres, theoretical physicist at Center for Theoretical Physics* (CPHT) and Julien Combe, Assistant Professor at the Department of Economics of Ecole polytechnique and researcher at Center for Reasearch in Economics and Statistics** (CREST). with ERC Starting Grants supported by the École Polytechnique. Through this scheme, the European Union helps young researchers to launch their own projects, train their teams and pursue their most promising ideas.

Carlota Andres Casas is a post-doctoral researcher at École Polytechnique's Centre de Physique Thérorique (CPHT), working on high-energy, high-density quantum chromodynamics.

Julian Combe is an Assistant Professor (tenure track) at the Department of Economics of Ecole polytechnique. The department is part of the Center for Research in Economics and Statistics (CREST), a joint interdisciplinary research center between ENSAE, ENSAI and Ecole polytechnique, with research teams in economics, statistics, sociology and finance. Ecole polytechnique and ENSAE are part of the Institut Polytechnique de Paris. He is one of the organizers of the Microeconomic Seminar at CREST. He is also an affiliated researcher at the Institut des Politiques Publiques, a French institute whose goal is to promote quantitative analysis and evaluation of public policy using cutting edge research methods in economics. As a market designer, he intervenes in a variety of applied topics such as education (kindergarden assignment, school choice, college admission, teacher assignment) or health (kidney exchange). You can find the policy briefs he wrote in the Research section. He completed his PhD in October 2017 at the Paris School of Economics under the supervision of Pr. Olivier Tercieux. From September 2015 to May 2016, he was a Visiting Scholar at the Department of Economics of Columbia University sponsored by Pr. Yeon-Koo Che. From September 2017 to August 2019 he was a Research Associate at the Department of Economics of University College London sponsored by Pr. Vasiliki Skreta.
