11 Apr. 2024
Charles Baroud, researcher and associate professor at the Hydrodynamics Laboratory* (LadHyX) at École polytechnique, Olivier Gossner, CNRS research director at the Center for Research in Economics and Statistics** (CREST) affiliate of the École polytechnique and Joris van der Hoeven, CNRS research director at the Computer Science Laboratory of the École Polytechnique *** (LIX), have had their projects selected by the European Research Council. All three have been awarded an ERC grant for 2024 in the Grants Advanced category. The mission of the European Research Council is to raise the level, dynamism and creativity of the European research system. Each year, it supports ambitious, high-quality research projects proposed by the researchers themselves.

About:

Charles Baroud is a researcher and associate professor at École Polytechnique's Laboratoire d'hydrodynamique (LadHyX). He founded and leads the microfluidics group at the École Polytechnique Hydrodynamics Laboratory. His research focuses on fluid dynamics and now encompasses many adjacent fields, such as nonlinear dynamics, bioengineering and soft matter. He is often amazed at how much can be learned by simply looking (if you know what to look for).

Olivier Gossner is CNRS Research Director at the Centre de Recherche en Economie et Statistique affiliated of the École Polytechnique. He is a specialist in game theory, working at the intersection of economics, mathematics and computer science. An alumnus of the École normale supérieure, he holds a PhD in statistics from the Université Pierre et Marie Curie and a habilitation in economics from the Université Paris Dauphine. He has held positions at Pompeu Fabra University, CORE, the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and the Kellogg School of Management. He is currently Director of Research at the CNRS, Professor of Economics at the École Polytechnique and Professor of Mathematics at the London School of Economics. He is a member of the Game Theory Society.
