Inauguration of the Mechanical Hub on IP Paris Campus

Le 04 oct. 2024
A new milestone in mechanical research was reached with the inauguration of the Mechanical Hub (Pôle mécanique in French), a significant project led by École Polytechnique and ENSTA Paris, both part of the Institut Polytechnique de Paris (IP Paris). After three years of intense work, this 10,000 m² center of excellence is ready to welcome researchers and students.
Inauguration of the Mechanical Hub on IP Paris Campus

The Mechanical Hub unites solid, fluid, and living mechanics labs from Ecole Polytechnique and ENSTA Paris in the contexte of IP Paris's Mechanical and Energy Department.

Positioned near the new ONERA site, this strategic facility promotes academic excellence internationally.

A Leading Research Infrastructure

The Hub hosts prestigious research teams from:

  • The Laboratory of Hydrodynamics (LadHyX), CNRS/École Polytechnique,
  • The Laboratory of Solid Mechanics (LMS), CNRS/École Polytechnique,
  • The Mechanics Unit (UME) and the Laboratory of Mechanics and Interfaces (LMI) from ENSTA Paris,
  • The Institute of Mechanics and Industrial Applications (IMSIA), in partnership with CEA, CNRS, EDF, and ENSTA Paris.

Alongside these labs, state-of-the-art experimental teaching installations offer students an advanced research-aligned learning environment.

Shared Ambition for Excellence and Collaboration

Designed to enhance collaboration among IP Paris schools, the Mechanical Hub fosters innovation and the pursuit of solutions to contemporary scientific challenges. Equipped with cutting-edge measuring and prototyping tools, the facility supports researcher-student interactions within optimized workspaces. Architect Pascale Guédot led the design, funded with €37.5 million from École Polytechnique (€30 million), ENSTA Paris (€7.5 million), and with EPA Paris-Saclay's support.
